This document applies to HP Slate 7 tablets with Android 4.1/Jelly Bean operating system.
Performing a system recovery on your HP tablet deletes the Android operating system, and reinstalls it using a microSD memory card. A system recovery does not destroy the data or settings you have saved on the tablet.
This document describes how to create recovery media, and how to use the recovery media to restore your tablet. Follow the steps in this document to perform a system recovery on your tablet.
Before you begin

Before starting the Android tablet recovery process, you need the following:
MicroSD memory card : You need a microSD card with 1GB or more capacity. All data is erased from the card when you create the recovery media. Back up any files currently stored on the memory card before you begin.
MicroSD-to-SD memory card adapter and SD card reader : You need a memory card adapter and card reader to create the recovery media on your computer.
Access to another computer : You need a computer with Internet access to download the recovery image and create the recovery media.
Creating the recovery media

The recovery media is a recovery file (called a "recovery image") stored on a microSD memory card. After the recovery media is created, it can be used to recover your tablet's operating system. Use the steps in this section to create recovery media for your Android tablet.
Insert the microSD card in the SD card adapter, and then insert the adapter into the SD card reader in your computer.
Format the microSD card using the FAT32 file system.
If you need instructions for formatting the card, search the Internet using the term "format memory card fat32" plus your operating system (for example, search for format memory card fat32 Windows 7 ).
To download the recovery image file, go to Google Android Jelly Bean Restore Image .
Click Download .

Save the update.zip file (recovery image) to your microSD card. Do not unzip or rename the file.

When the download is complete, close the window, and then remove the memory card from the card reader.

The recovery media is ready to use in the tablet.
Entering recovery mode and reinstalling Android OS

Use the recovery media you created to install a new version of the Android 4.1/Jelly Bean operating system on your tablet, using the steps in this section.
With the tablet powered off, insert the recovery media microSD card into the tablet's card reader, located at the top edge of the tablet.

Press and hold the volume +/- rocker and power buttons.
When an HP logo appears on the screen, release the buttons.
After a few seconds, the Android system recovery menu appears.

NOTE:The touch screen is disabled when the tablet is in recovery mode. Use the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons to navigate up or down in the recovery menu, and use the POWER button to select the highlighted item.
Use the volume down button to move the highlight to wipe cache partition .

NOTE:The cache partition stores files that are frequently accessed by the operating system. Wiping the cache partition does not delete any of your personal data or harm your system files.
